Gumbo Joy is a great book concerning fatherhood, food, culture and family and our eternal roots to Africa.

Short Bio: I was born and raised in New Orleans. I am a part-time firefighter and I have a 10yr old daughter that I’m raising.
When did you realize you wanted to be a children’s book author?
When the publisher came to me with an idea of me teaching my daughter how to make gumbo and joy it brings almost everyone whom taste it.
What is your favorite part of being an author?
My favorite part about being author is the many lives I can touch with my story and our history within that story.
What inspired this book?
My daughter ,my love for cooking and my New Orleans culture and character I was raised within.
How long did it take you to write this book?
It took a few months, however the pandemic stretched it for a year or more.
What part of the book was the most fun to write?
Teaching my daughter about how to make gumbo.
What advice would you give a writer working on their first book?
Staying vigilant in your goals. Being persistent and very intentional while following through. However, being patient.
What are you working on now? OR What would you like people to know about you or the book?
I’m researching a childrens book on Black Firefighters.
Thoughts …
I enjoyed this book and learned a great deal about making gumbo.
It is not too early to start thinking about spring holidays and events that will require a gift. Books make wonderful gifts and Gumbo Joy is one of those books that any child or teacher would love to receive as a gift.
