Little Free Library Week

I am celebrating Little Free Library Week by sharing my books. Copies of Gertie Saves the Day and Two Wins for Wiley were added to my local Little Free Library. I sign each copy and add a note. Sometimes, I get an email from a child who has just read my book. It is a fun way for me to share my books with children. These libraries are not just for children, you can find chapter books, YA and Adult books in these libraries.

MOTTO

The motto is “Take a Book, Share a Book” and little libraries are growing stronger each day. These libraries are available in all 50 states, 120 countries and all 7 continents. as of March, there are 200.000 little libraries.

MISSION

Little Library’s mission is to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led book-exchange boxes.

VISION

Their vision is a Little Library in every community and a book for every reader. The organization believes all people are empowered when the opportunity to discover a relevant book to read is not limited. Everyone reads!

Benefits of the Program

1. Supporting Literacy: Little Free Library Sharing Boxes improves book access, which helps improve low literacy rates. By providing books all year long, children can read and especially avoid the “summer slide” where kids’ reading skills slip.

2. Demonstrating a Reading Lifestyle: A Sharing Box populated with books for all ages on a variety of subjects will attract readers from different parts of the community. Participation by adults demonstrates to younger readers the value our culture places on books and encourages good reading habits.

3. Partnerships with Parents:  When schools, libraries and parents work together, the outcome can be powerful. Parents can be important advocates, and help with funding, implementation, and maintenance of a Little Library.

4. Establishing New Avenues of Community Service: Libraries and schools have established Little Library Sharing Boxes beyond their properties as a way to engage with their communities. Volunteers, service groups, and students can assemble kits and maintain book supplies for locations where books are few.

With gratitude …

I am so glad you’re here. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. I am grateful that I can share my writing journey with you. It is an endless journey of learning and growing. A journey that I am enjoying.

I am now booking author visits for the fall, 2025 school year. If you are a classroom teacher, teacher assistant, Parent Teacher Association President, or After school Director I can work with you to create a visit that will meet the needs of your students. Please contact me to book your visit.

My website has been updates and it is now interactive. There are surprises everywhere. Click on the balloons and see where they take you. Can you find two writing videos? Freebies? A chocolate chip recipe? There’s even a special freebie to anyone who subscribes to my newsletter. Check out the resources for childrenparents and teachers, librarians and homeschooling families.

Please consider purchasing a copy of Two Wins for Wiley or Gertie Saves the Day for gifts. There’s always a reason to give a book, especially as the school year is coming to an end. Books make great gifts. Books can be read over and over again. It is my wish to get as many books as I can into the hands of children. Children need to hear all kinds of stories. A book is the best gift for both children and adults!
