Author interviews help readers to better understand how and why their stories were written. This week I would like you to meet Liliana Tommasini author of Octavia Can Do It. Octavia Can Do It! is a humorous story of a young girl as she discovers that even the most independent people need a little help sometimes.

Short Bio
Liliana Tommasini is a Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators member. She is also a wife, mother of two grown daughters, and Nonna (Grandmother) of two grandchildren. Liliana loves to play games, read stories, and bake with her grandchildren.
She believes parents should empower children to explore and take the initiative to try new things independently and know it’s okay to ask for help if needed.
Liliana lives with her husband and their red golden retriever in the beautiful province of Quebec.
Octavia Can Do It! is Liliana’s first children’s book.
When did you realize you wanted to be a children’s book author?
My grandchildren have an insatiable curiosity and passion for creativity (and cookies.) Watching them bake with their mama one day sparked the idea of capturing their experiences in children’s books.
What is your favorite part of being an author?
Octavia Can Do It! is my first children’s picture book. I love every phase of the writing process, from writing the story to publishing. But my favourite part is writing a story about what I know and love.
What inspired this book?
My grandchildren inspired me to write this book. It’s my legacy to them.
How long did it take you to write this book?
Since I had the idea of the story mapped out for some time, it took less than six months to complete writing the story, including the edits.
What part of the book was the most fun to write?
The most fun part captured on paper was the scene when Octavia takes over and tells Ludovic what to do, especially since she wanted to do everything herself!
What advice would you give a writer working on their first book?
Do not compare yourself to other writers. Your book is your unique story.
Remember that you are not alone in your writing journey. Join a writing community to interact with authors and ask for support when you need it.
What are you working on now? OR What would you like people to know about you or the book?
Octavia and Ludovic are welcoming a new sibling to the family this summer. I am so excited to be a Nonna for the third time
I am already thinking of writing stories about the three of them.
Thoughts …
I am a baker myself and my two daughters were always at my side baking cookies. Needless to say, I enjoyed this book very much and I think you will too!
It is not too early to start thinking about spring events that require gift giving. Books make wonderful gifts and Octavia Can Do It is one of those books that any child or teacher would love to receive as a gift.
