Read Across America is a celebration of reading. Read Across America Day, also recognized as Dr. Seuss Day, is an annual event that promotes the joy of reading, especially among children. The celebration takes place every year on March 2nd, marking the birth anniversary of Dr. Seuss. Schools, libraries, and communities nationwide host special reading events and activities to commemorate the day. It was It was established by the National Education Association. I will be participating in the celebration by reading my book, Gertie Saves the Day, at a local Pick a Reading Partner(PARP) event.
Pick a Reading Partner
Pick a Reading Partner is s a collaborative effort among parents, teachers, and community to build a reading partnership between the home and the school. Learning to read is the single most important activity in a child’s education. PARP is a program that asks parents to read with their children for at least fifteen minutes daily, stressing the fact that reading can be fun as well as informative. The daily activity of reading together strengthens reading and communication skills in the child and also strengthens the parent/child relationship.
