My next guest blogger is Miriam Laundry. As I have mentioned in a previous post, it was a free training from Miriam that changed my thinking about publishing my book. It was the best decision I could have made. She is a knowledgeable teacher and mentor. I have grown as a writer thanks to her guidance and inspiration. Next week I will see my dream come true and I will become a published author. She also has an excellent team of experts who helped to guided me through publishing process. I hope you will enjoy learning more about her journey from children’s book author to publisher.
How it all began …
Ever since I published my first children’s book in 2012, I’ve received emails from aspiring authors asking if they could pick my brain for publishing know-how.
I used to spend hours meeting with authors, telling them as much information as I could about how to self-publish a children’s book.
“You’re always out with people.” My husband said, “You should charge for it!” I smiled and brushed him off.
But as time went on, I found myself losing touch with many of the authors who knocked on my door. I was able to teach them how to reach their goals and give them the confidence to move forward with their careers, but I had no clue where they ended up. I wanted to know which illustrator they ended up choosing, how book sales were going, and if there was anything else I could do to help.
So I used my husband’s advice and decided to take on 6 authors to mentor them for a year and help them do everything they needed to in order to publish their children’s books. Needless to say, this mentorship went off without a hitch and made me realize that I could turn my passion for children’s books into a business.
Miriam Laundry Publishing
Midway through 2020, I started ML Publishing, a hybrid publishing company dedicated to helping aspiring authors find success.
By myself, I could only publish a book every two years. But with a business dedicated to helping aspiring authors find their way, I would be able to help many more children’s books enter the world. Publishing is not a competition to me — it’s a partnership.
Now, I can confidently say that I am living with more purpose than I ever was before. It brings me so much joy and fulfilment to see aspiring authors become published authors. Accomplishing goals is a very big deal to me, so getting to help others achieve their goals has been amazing.
When I started this journey, running my own publishing company was nowhere near my radar. Now, I am empowering authors, living with purpose, and inspiring more children than I ever could have on my own.
