World Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Day

Every year on October 24th, World Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Day is celebrated. It is celebrated in an effort to increase public awareness of the benefits of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine found that one in ten adults had received acupuncture at least one time. Sixty percent said they would readily consider acupuncture as a potential treatment option and were satisfied with their treatment.

Two Wins for Wiley

Two Wins for Wiley is a story about baseball and acupuncture. Wiley is his baseball team’s best hitter. With the play-offs around the corner, the pressure is on for Wiley to practice hard and play his best. But there’s one big problem.

Wiley suffers from frequent stomach aches, and they’re only getting worse. When his coach suggests that he tries acupuncture, Wiley must make a difficult decision. He can either face his fear of needles and get better for the big game, or risk losing the play-offs as he watches from the sidelines.

Why a Children’s Book about Acupuncture

This is probably the most asked question I receive from teachers and children. My daughter and co-author of this book earned her Doctorate in Acupuncture. When she opened her practice, she welcomed adults and children. She set up a corner of the office for children with toys and books. She wanted to include books about acupuncture and found there were a few that explained acupuncture, but no books about a child’s experience with acupuncture.

The Pandemic brought parents back to her practice, but not children. Acupuncture treatments were helping her patients feel better. Parents would talk about their concerns about their children being healthy, she recommended they bring their child for a treatment. Most of the parents said that their child was afraid of needles, which we know is common for children and adults. This gave us the idea of writing a book about a child facing the fear of needles and the healing that acupuncture can bring. Do you know a child or adult who, like Wiley, is sick and fears needles? This book might just help them get past their fears.

Did you know?

Many athletes use acupuncture to loosen up tight muscles, tendons, and ligaments that have been over-used during training or playing their sport. It is gaining popularity among the NFL players and many Major League Baseball players have regular acupuncture treatments. Some teams now have an acupuncturist on staff. Acupuncture gives you more control over your own health, reduces stress and increases relaxation levels, improves sleep, and improved sense of health and well being.

Thoughts …

As a children’s author I strive to write books that will inspire, challenge, inform and encourage children to learn more about the world around them. This book is being well received by adults and children. I love it when parents tell me it is their child’s favorite book or they read this book over and over again to their child. That is every writer’s dream.
